CFUW Submits a Brief on Bill C-71

June 5, 2018 – In its brief to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security CFUW asks that strong provisions to reduce the risks of firearms being used inappropriately be included in Bill C-71. The proposed Bill reintroduces important provisions to ensure the safety of all Canadians. However, additional provisions related to screening and licensing, tracking and control of sales, control and transport of restricted weapons and to end the possession of assault weapons are needed to respond adequately to key public safety concerns.

CFUW Requests Stronger Gun Control

May 11, 2018 - The lack of control over guns endangers human life. Guns facilitate violence and increase the vulnerability of women and children living in abusive situations to serious physical and psychological harm and to homicide.
CFUW wrote to Minister Goodale, Minister Monsef and several Members of Parliament to ask for strong provision in Bill C-71. CFUW Celebrates Earth Day!

For the eighth feature in the sustainable development goals (SDG) series, CFUW International Committee celebrates Earth Day. Through this piece the committee shares with members meaningful reflections on the state of our environment and the urgency to act. They also discuss the interconnection between the environment and gender equality by focusing on the Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls, which was this year's United Nations Commission on the Status of Women's Priority Theme.
